Ultra Music Festival is touching down in Miami once again. As hundreds of world-renowned DJ's gather together for the three-day extravaganza, instructor Adam gives us the low down on why it's his favorite event of all time, which shows are not to miss, what DJ's he likes best, and how Ultra inspires his teaching style and music selections. Read ahead! :
1. What makes Ultra your favorite time of the year in Miami?
There is a different buzz, a heightened sense of electricity all around Miami during Miami Music Week and specifically Ultra weekend. People travel here from around the world to be a part of this week. Ultra Music Festival is widely known as one of the top music festivals in the world, and to have it in my backyard (literally) is amazing.
2. Give us the 411 on how to get the most out of Ultra weekend?
The key to Ultra weekend is to remember it's a marathon, not a sprint. You want to make sure you've got a plan of which artists you want to see, what time they play and at what stage. Staying organized makes everything easier which is why I recommend downloading the Ultra 2016 app so that you have all that information right at your fingertips. I've gone to Ultra all three days a few times, and I've learned that in order to make it all the way to those grand finale fireworks you must hydrate, wear some comfy shoes and make sure to get plenty of rest.
3. What are some must see shows? Any personal favorite DJ's?
There are many different genres of Electronic Dance Music. Every stage at Ultra usually highlights a specific genre depending on the day. With that being said my top 3 suggestions for this year (in no particular order) are Martin Garrix at Mainstage on Friday, Carl Cox at the Carl Cox and Friends stage also on Friday and then finish the weekend with a huge treat of Deadmau5, Eric Prydz and Armin van Buuren back-to-back-to-back at A State of Trance stage Sunday night. Some of my favorite DJs to see at a festival are Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix, Eric Prydz, Tiesto, Afrojack and Hardwell.
4. How does Ultra inspire your style of teaching at Redbike?
I don't think this comes as a surprise to the RedPack that I love playing a lot of upbeat and banging songs that explode through the speakers, especially during my huge sprints. I always remind students to lose themselves for 45 minutes and just be happy about the hard work they are putting in and to remember to have fun and dance around sometimes. The added bonus are the colored strobe lights and I try my best to put on a show for everyone to make the spinning experience more like a party or a festival than a workout.
5. What Ultra inspired songs are currently playing on your Spotify?
Eric Prydz- The Matrix
Martin Garrix- Now That I've Found You
Hardwell- Run Wild
Afrojack- Hollywood
Ben Gold- I'm in A State of Trance (ASOT 750 Anthem)
