This Week at RedBike: Red Madness, Music Power Couples, & Oh Yeah....A Bus!

Happy Monday RedPack,

We hope you had a great weekend! If you were out on the town Saturday, you may have bumped into our RedBike-themed Bus (see above). Check out this Link to see the fun and hilarity that ensued when our instructors teamed up with other proud members of the #RedPack and a live DJ and hit the streets of MIA!

If you weren't out on the town, then we hope you stopped by the studio to take a class or two. We know Team Steph was out in full force garnering the team two victories in two weeks as Red Madness passes the half way point. Impressively, Linda Yun moved into the outright individual lead with 15 rides in the last two weeks! Remember, we have until the NCAA Championship Game on Monday, April 4th, so get off the couch and get riding!

And if you needed even more motivation, Themed Thursday's triple lineup boasts the biggest stars in hip hop, pop, and EDM, as music's greatest power couples collide. Jumpstart the night with Beyonce & Jay-Z who were actually eclipsed on Forbes last year by Taylor Swift & Calvin Harris. And with rumors swirling of a romantic reunion, Selena Gomez & Justin Bieber may yet join the ranks of this power couple upper echelon.

This Week at RedBike: Red Madness, Rihanna, and Britney Spears!

As the dust settles on the Ultra stage and the last rays of sun fade from all the chic hotel pool parties, life in Miami regains a sense of normalcy; and as we rejoin the rest of the country in celebrating March Madness, Red Madness is heating up!

Team Steph is out to a week 1 lead with Team America (not the country) close behind, and there's a two-way tie for top rider between Linda Yun & Vanessa Izquierdo, who have each gone 8 times since Monday. Remember you can earn extra points by checking in on Facebook or using #redbikestudios on Instagram, and you can earn double points by bringing a new friend to the studio!

And now that you mention the studio, this week's Themed Thursday comes at you hot and sexy as we track the musical evolutions of two of America's hottest pop and R&B princesses. First, join us as Steph brings you the best of Britney from her late 90s teen pop heyday to her dance-music transformation of today. Then join Adam as he brings you Rihanna from her R&B-Caribbean musical roots to todays edgier, EDM-influenced anthems and collaborations!

Have a great week! Hope to see you in the saddle!

Adam's Guide to Ultra!

Ultra Music Festival is touching down in Miami once again. As hundreds of world-renowned DJ's gather together for the three-day extravaganza, instructor Adam gives us the low down on why it's his favorite event of all time, which shows are not to miss, what DJ's he likes best, and how Ultra inspires his teaching style and music selections. Read ahead! :

1. What makes Ultra your favorite time of the year in Miami?

There is a different buzz, a heightened sense of electricity all around Miami during Miami Music Week and specifically Ultra weekend. People travel here from around the world to be a part of this week. Ultra Music Festival is widely known as one of the top music festivals in the world, and to have it in my backyard (literally) is amazing.

2. Give us the 411 on how to get the most out of Ultra weekend?

The key to Ultra weekend is to remember it's a marathon, not a sprint. You want to make sure you've got a plan of which artists you want to see, what time they play and at what stage. Staying organized makes everything easier which is why I recommend downloading the Ultra 2016 app so that you have all that information right at your fingertips. I've gone to Ultra all three days a few times, and I've learned that in order to make it all the way to those grand finale fireworks you must hydrate, wear some comfy shoes and make sure to get plenty of rest.

3. What are some must see shows? Any personal favorite DJ's?

There are many different genres of Electronic Dance Music. Every stage at Ultra usually highlights a specific genre depending on the day. With that being said my top 3 suggestions for this year (in no particular order) are Martin Garrix at Mainstage on Friday, Carl Cox at the Carl Cox and Friends stage also on Friday and then finish the weekend with a huge treat of Deadmau5, Eric Prydz and Armin van Buuren back-to-back-to-back at A State of Trance stage Sunday night. Some of my favorite DJs to see at a festival are Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix, Eric Prydz, Tiesto, Afrojack and Hardwell.

4. How does Ultra inspire your style of teaching at Redbike?

I don't think this comes as a surprise to the RedPack that I love playing a lot of upbeat and banging songs that explode through the speakers, especially during my huge sprints. I always remind students to lose themselves for 45 minutes and just be happy about the hard work they are putting in and to remember to have fun and dance around sometimes. The added bonus are the colored strobe lights and I try my best to put on a show for everyone to make the spinning experience more like a party or a festival than a workout.

5. What Ultra inspired songs are currently playing on your Spotify?

Eric Prydz- The Matrix
Martin Garrix- Now That I've Found You
Hardwell- Run Wild
Afrojack- Hollywood
Ben Gold- I'm in A State of Trance (ASOT 750 Anthem)

If you can't make it to Ultra Music Festival, make sure to check out a class with Adam by booking a class today. He'll be sure to bring some Ultra inspiration back to Redbike!

RedBike Success Story: Claire's Journey

Claire stumbled upon Redbike because of proximity and convenience. What she didn't know was that classes would transform her life in ways she never imagined possible. From prepping for marathons, to helping her fit into a designer dress she always dreamed about, Claire shares her experience and Redbike success journey:

Redbike is a great way to get fit because it's a tough workout that is really fun! I first found out about Redbike because I lived near the Brickell studio. I decided to give it a try because I love staying active. Running has always been my main workout, but I thought that Redbike spinning might be a good way to cross-train and build strength on my non-running days. I was right!

Redbike’s workouts are great for runners because they include 45 minutes of cardio while also working all the major muscle groups. Pedaling with heavy resistance really helped build up my calves and quads. The classes also include an arm workout, so my shoulders and biceps are looking better than ever! I’ve run long-distance races before, and am currently training for another half marathon. Thanks to Redbike, I’m sure this will be my fittest race yet.

Although I joined because I wanted to get stronger, I have lost weight since becoming a member of the Red Pack. I recently bought a new dress from one of my favorite designers in a size I hadn’t been able to wear since college. It’s amazing to see so much progress when the workouts feel more like a party. The instructors are friendly and encouraging, the playlists are upbeat and creative, and the studio’s club lights complete the experience. I would recommend Redbike to anyone who is looking for a fun way to achieve his or her fitness goals. Give it a try, you’ll be glad you did!

A RedBike Farewell to Instructor Gabi Tudin

From rider to rockstar instructor, Gabi shares why she became an instructor, her favorite moments at Redbike, what motivates her, and why she's making the journey over to the Big Apple.

1) Why are you moving to NYC and what are you most excited about?

I am moving for an exciting new job! I'm most excited to explore the city and eat all the amazing food, and hopefully find a place half as good as Redbike to teach spin!

2) What first brought you to Redbike?

The day I arrived in Miami, finding the right spin studio was first on my to-do list. What kept me coming back was the Redbike experience--the amazing instructors, keeping the workout fun and challenging, and the wonderful sense of community there.

3) What made you want to become an instructor?

I've always loved spin and was just itching to share that passion I feel on the bike with others. I've gotten to be creative making playlists and choreography, while seeing my students push themselves and grow!

4) What are some of your favorite moments from teaching at Redbike?

Co-teaching the Beyonce vs Rihanna class with Steph was so much fun. We worked hard to make the best playlist and had an amazing time with everyone in the class!

5) What are your daily motivation/inspirational mantras?

If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you.

6) You'll come back to Miami as a guest instructor, right?

YES PLEASE!!

We'll miss you Gabi! Come check out one last class with Gabi this Saturday at 9:30 am. Spots are filling up so book your bike online at www.redbikestudios.com

Riding to the Altar - RedBike Couples

Two special Redbike couples have been getting wedding ready at Redbike! Take a look at their journeys: from the moment they first hopped on the saddle, why they enjoy riding together, ways they motivate each other, and how riding at Redbike has prepared them to tie the knot.

Leslie and Adam:

We first came to Redbike over a year ago when it opened and we have been coming back ever since! We love the high energy and great music selection. Redbike offers extremely convenient class times that fit in perfectly with our work schedules. Although we're not morning people, the 7am class is a great way to jumpstart our day!  We like going to Redbike together because it keeps us accountable and ensures that one of us can't slack off (Adam) when the other one (Leslie) pops out of bed in the morning. Spinning has been a really fun and effective way to stay in shape and keep us active while getting ready for our wedding this weekend. Thanks RedBike!

Shawn and Andrea:

We started coming to Redbike in the middle of December.  We enjoyed riding our bikes when we lived in Orlando, but when we moved into Downtown Miami there were not as many bike-friendly places to go, so we decided to try spinning instead.  We are also getting ready for our wedding in September, so we have extra motivation to exercise. After our first class, what made us return was the feeling of accomplishment we got once we were done.  It was hard, but also instantly rewarding to see the smiles from the instructors and the rest of the Redbike pack we rode with.  The awesome playlists of music, judgement-free atmosphere, and energizing motivation from all of the instructors throughout the class make you push to a new level each and every class.

We enjoy riding together because we push each other to be better, but also help pick each other up if one of us is struggling through a workout.  We always look to each other and smile after all of the sprints.  There is also a lot of fist bumping going on throughout our rides. Even in the 3 short months we have been going to Redbike we are already seeing changes in how we look and feel better than we have in a long time.  The spinning classes along with nutritional help from Monika at Feed Me Health are keeping us super active and eating properly to be wedding photo ready and feel great on our special day.

Congratulations to Leslie and Adam who #ofischaly said "I Do" on February 13, 2016. Stay tuned for Shawn and Andrea's journey towards the altar!

RedBike Revolution Recap

January is over, but that doesn’t mean your New Years Resolutions have to be. After participating in different challenges, our instructors share what new habits they’ve made permanent during the first month of the Redbike Revolution:

Mari: During the Fitness Revolution, I added more weight during my routines. Now I can’t imagine going back down! I also started putting my cell phone away 20 minutes before bed. I’ve been sleeping so much better and I can spend the last few moments awake each day with the ones I love. I have a good feeling about 2016!

Adam: Overall, the Revolution helped me change some of my eating habits. I burn a lot of calories with spinning, so I need to fuel with foods that have more nutrients. Now I’m eating a lot of salads packed with veggies and good proteins, and fruit for snack. The weekends are a different story…let’s just say I like to be adventurous with food.

America: During the Redbike Revolution, I cut out dairy, any protein (fish, chicken, meat), caffeine, and alcohol. I felt so much better physically! I totally felt a change in my body and will certainly limit these in my diet from now on and it's not hard! I found great alternatives.

Steph: I hate to admit it, but I was really comfortable using the 1 lb weights during our arm song. You won’t catch me doing that in any of my spinning classes again! But, what I had the most fun with was the Adventure Revolution. I got out of my comfort zone a few times this month and I’ll definitely continue to partake in fun, spontaneous activities that give me a little rush of excitement.

Albert: I don’t know if anyone saw my epic video on Instagram, but I was not kidding when I said hydrating is important. I started drinking a lot more water every day and I noticed a big difference in my energy levels, especially when teaching classes. Don’t forget to hydrate!

Gabi: I made a resolution three years ago to cut out all meat from my diet. I can proudly say that till this day that resolution still goes. For those just starting their Redbike Revolution…believe me that it’s possible! Find whatever works best for you.

Week 4: Adventure Challenge

We may have reached the last week of January and your final "Adventure Challenge," but the #RedBikeRevolution is only getting started...remember, this year's resolutions are now permanent changes to your fitness & health lifestyle!

"Adventure" is defined as a bold, usually risky undertaking that takes you out of your comfort zone, but it is also about having fun. This sense of adventure (and fun) is embodied by those who ran in the Miami Marathon today. It was amazing to see so many members of the #RedPack running, and it was an honor for us to sponsor and support not only our members but all of the courageous runners!

Our superstar instructors Adam & Gabi know a thing or two about adventure. Both have demanding, full-time jobs and both had never dreamt about becoming group fitness instructors, let alone spinning instructors! Yet, Adam & Gabi were both driven by a potent sense of adventure, a desire to step out of their comfort zone, have fun, and help others in the process.

In class Adam always says, “Let me see those smiles,” so in that vein, this week we through out the rulebook and focus on just having fun. Get swept up, feel the energy, Smile! Maybe it's a song, maybe it's something the instructor says, maybe it's just being happy or being swept up in the energy of the room. So rarely do we get nonjudgmental moments that are truly our own, so enjoy it! :)

Let's Be Mindful

Working out and eating right is only half the battle when it comes to a well-rounded lifestyle. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said: “Everyone has the power for greatness, not fame, but greatness, because greatness is determined by service”.  Providing a service, whether it’s to the community, to loved ones, or to you, all while being mindful, plays a huge role in how we feel. Our instructors Mari and America share their stories of how they like to give back and how it makes them feel better:

America: I am a very busy person. I teach an administrative job 5 days a week and tend to others all day. I also teach spinning a few times a week at Redbike. I love teaching spin because I know I’m helping others feel good and that makes me feel good too. However, I needed to find other ways to help me stay focused and grounded, especially since I’m also a newlywed! I have had to learn to manage my personal, work and social life. Doing all three is impossible if I’m not emotionally and mentally stable and what really helps me is being part of Vous Church.  One of the things we take pride in is giving back to our community in a project called “I Love My City” where we outreach through Miami Rescue Mission in Wynwood. We are committed to meeting the needs of those in the most desperation. There is no better way to love your city, than to serve it! There is no better feeling than to see how I can change peoples lives just by giving back and how I can make someone smile, simply by giving children a new backpack for school, a blanket for the homeless, and food for those in need. Giving back to others in our community fills my heart with happiness and gives me a good understanding and appreciation of what is really important in life.

Mari: "Live less out of habit and more out of intent."  I have set out for myself that 2016 is going to be the year that I live each day intentionally. In the past, I felt that I approached most days out of duty and drudgery. BUT NOT THIS YEAR!  On a daily basis, I have several opportunities to give of myself, of my time, and resources. There are two areas of my life where I serve: as a mom and as a fitness instructor.

Being a home-school mom of 4 children, I give my time to teach my kids day in and day out. I also am a director and tutor of a local homeschooling community.  Investing my time to teach the upcoming generation is an honor and privilege, and I am grateful that I can have this time in my kids’ lives and other children's lives to give back intentionally. When it comes to spinning, I began teaching for several reasons. The biggest reason though was because it’s where my passion for leading others in a positive, exciting, and healthy environment is matched with my desire to care for my own health and reach my own fitness goals.

Now it’s your turn! Use this week to add a little greatness into your life. Don’t forget  to follow us on Instagram or Facebook for daily tips, challenges, and words of encouragement to add to your Revolution.
