Channeling Your Inner DJ

All of our instructors will be channeling one of the top DJ's in the world for a special week of theme rides. Because being an instructor is almost like being a DJ, we asked the team to share what their current favorite tracks are, as well as the music genre that personifies them best and inspires their unique teaching style:

Steph:

If there was a genre that combined Trap Music, EDM, and Reggaeton, they would name it after me. I can dance for hours, on and off the bike, listening to those heavy, "caliente", and electrifying beats.

1. The Only Way Is Up- Tiesto

2. Deep Down Low (Yellow Claw Mix)- Valentino Khan

3. La Gozadera- Gente de Zona

Adam:

My favorite genre is EDM. It fits my personality very well; It's upbeat and energetic which is perfect for dancing as well as working out!

1. Off The Hook - Hardwell & Armin van Buuren

2. Split (Only U) - Tiësto & The Chainsmokers

3. To Life - Ansolo

Gabi:

I love EDM and pop for spinning. When the beat drops and you can just explode with energy, it's perfect.

1. War Paint (Young Bombs Remix)- FLETCHER

2. Levels - Nick Jonas

3. Knight Time - Don Diablo

America:

In my classes I like to play the top hits that you hear on the radio and like to find those hits that are remixed. It pumps people up to hear their favorite song from the radio, especially while they are cycling with me at RedBike!

1. Best Day of My Life - American Authors- Gazzo Remix

2. Can't feel my face - The Weeknd

3. How deep is your love - Calvin Harris - DJ Snake remix

Albert:

I like all types of music and my playlists are nothing if not eclectic. I like to combine hip hop/house fusion, EDM with Pop, and I even throw in indie/alternative tracks. It has a little something for everyone.

1. Devil - Cash Cash featuring B.o.B and Busta

2 Faded (Odesza Remix) - Zhu

3. Renegades - X Ambassadors

Mari:

I enjoy listening to all types of music genres. However, I tend to listen more to Pop music. The relatable beats and lyrics in most pop songs are what attracts me to this genre. This type of music meshes well with my personality and style!

1. Afire Love - Ed Sheeran

2. Locked Away - R City feat. Adam Levine

3. Don't Be So Hard On Yourself - Jess Glynne

Fit for Fall: Instructor Edition

Fit for Fall has begun...and our very own instructor team has joined the challenge! They each share their insight on why they've decided to participate, the hardest thing they'll need to overcome, and what will keep them motivated for the next 6 weeks:

Steph:

  • I'm joining the challenge because I plan to win(DUH)! But seriously, my goal is to develop a better routine that works for someone who is always on the go. Between teaching at Redbike, and training Pilates clients, it's important that I find a balance of fitness and nutrition that will give me the energy I need throughout the day.

  • The hardest thing I'll be doing is cutting out sweets. I love dessert! But thank goodness for dark chocolate.
  • I believe that every day is a new opportunity to be better. I set small goals for myself every day, and if there is a setback then there is always tomorrow. Being hard on yourself is a waste of mental energy--stay positive!

Gabi:

  • My goal is to cut down on eating out. Restaurant selections aren't the most nutritious. I'll be making more of an effort to cook healthier meals at home instead!
  • The saddest thing to say bye to will be Pizza. I mean, who doesn't love Pizza?
  • Even though it's a challenge, my focus is on my own progress. It's important to avoid comparing your progress with others.

Adam:

  • I never really think about what I eat. I always try to make better choices, like brown rice or whole wheat pasta. With Fit for Fall, I'm choosing to be more aware of the choices I make. Our in house dietician suggested I add more veggies to my diet, so that's where I'll start.
  • The hardest thing I'll be giving up are my long afternoon naps. But I heard napping for 15-20 minutes is actually good, so once I get that in I'll spend the other portion of my afternoon at the gym. Weight training and Redbike classes will do my bod good.

  • I stay motivated by remembering to live in the now and make the most of every moment. Being present and mindful of what you feel and what your body needs is the most important thing.

America:

  • Fall means a new, shorter day schedule. Therefore, I'm taking full advantage of Fit for Fall to maintain my pre-wedding "summer bod". Incorporating a 4x per week fitness routine (on top of the Redbike classes I teach) and adding fresh seasonal produce into my diet will keep me in the game!
  • I'm always sad to see summer produce go (aka Watermelon). It's my favorite, so saying goodbye to that will be hard.
  • All you need for motivation is yourself. It's important to remember that nothing can motivate you more than the internal desire to do better. Once you're convicted, nothing can stop you!

Mari:

  • I'm a mother of four and keeping a balance of fitness, nutrition, and sleep can be hectic. My goal for Fit for Fall is to get more sleep and more "me" time to maintain a healthier lifestyle!
  • I love Haagen Daaz ice cream bars. Giving that up will be hard. But I'll substitute that for a cup of fresh berries, some almonds, and a cup of almond milk.

  • I truly think that if something doesn't challenge you, it won't change you. Stay focused and the results will be worth it.

Fit for Fall: Albert Ghitis

Our Redpack leader, Albert Ghitis, is getting ready to join the Fit For Fall Challenge. From why he's choosing to participate, to the challenges he expects to face, Albert shares his insight and a few personal tips.

1. Why are you choosing to participate in the challenge:

The entire Redbike staff is participating in fit for fall as a fun team-bonding competition. We also want to show solidarity with our clients doing the challenge and share the experience with them. For me personally, life finally gets back to normal around this time so fall is a perfect time to kick of a true lifestyle change...plus it's always beach season in Miami!

2. What is the challenge going to look like for the next 6 weeks:

Like everyone doing the challenge, it's going be a balance between eating healthy and exercising regularly. Considering I teach around 13 classes weekly, I'd say I have that part down. So for me it starts with the initial consultation (and measurements) with our dietitians, Monika and Galit. Though I haven't had the consult yet, my food goals for the challenge are to eat about five to six smaller meals a day. I always start my day with a coffee. Once I'm done teaching class I'll grab any of our protein smoothies from RedBoost....(the M.I.A. Mamey is my personal favorite). I work from the office most afternoons so an easy lunch from our Brickell neighbors is my go-to. I swap between a Greek Salad from Giardino's or a Ahi Amarillo ceviche bowl from MyCeviche. For a quick snack before afternoon classes I'll have another protein smoothie (skip on the fruit to limit extra sugars). I try to cook when I can so I'll be making simple and easy dinners, such as steak or chicken with stir fry veggies. As the saying goes: "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper."

3. What habit will be the hardest to kick:

My weakness is dessert.. I really love sweets so that will be tough to cut out. Indulging in a few bites per week works for some people, but not for me. I'm all or nothing. Thankfully there are great alternatives like Quest bars (Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is by far the best!)

4. What changes do you want to make:

I always like to be in good physical shape for personal health reasons and for more superficial reasons as well. As a fitness professional I feel a duty to be in the best physical shape that I can be in. I want the increase of my mood and energy, along with the physical changes, to inspire my clients. I want these changes to be permanent, not just temporary.

5. What personal motivation will you use to adhere to the six week challenge?

I try to adhere to something a friend of mine once said: "Your body is your vehicle in life and whether you drive a ferrarri or a pinto is completely up to you and within your control. So why not strive to have the best car you can possibly have."
