RedBike Revolution Recap

January is over, but that doesn’t mean your New Years Resolutions have to be. After participating in different challenges, our instructors share what new habits they’ve made permanent during the first month of the Redbike Revolution:

Mari: During the Fitness Revolution, I added more weight during my routines. Now I can’t imagine going back down! I also started putting my cell phone away 20 minutes before bed. I’ve been sleeping so much better and I can spend the last few moments awake each day with the ones I love. I have a good feeling about 2016!

Adam: Overall, the Revolution helped me change some of my eating habits. I burn a lot of calories with spinning, so I need to fuel with foods that have more nutrients. Now I’m eating a lot of salads packed with veggies and good proteins, and fruit for snack. The weekends are a different story…let’s just say I like to be adventurous with food.

America: During the Redbike Revolution, I cut out dairy, any protein (fish, chicken, meat), caffeine, and alcohol. I felt so much better physically! I totally felt a change in my body and will certainly limit these in my diet from now on and it's not hard! I found great alternatives.

Steph: I hate to admit it, but I was really comfortable using the 1 lb weights during our arm song. You won’t catch me doing that in any of my spinning classes again! But, what I had the most fun with was the Adventure Revolution. I got out of my comfort zone a few times this month and I’ll definitely continue to partake in fun, spontaneous activities that give me a little rush of excitement.

Albert: I don’t know if anyone saw my epic video on Instagram, but I was not kidding when I said hydrating is important. I started drinking a lot more water every day and I noticed a big difference in my energy levels, especially when teaching classes. Don’t forget to hydrate!

Gabi: I made a resolution three years ago to cut out all meat from my diet. I can proudly say that till this day that resolution still goes. For those just starting their Redbike Revolution…believe me that it’s possible! Find whatever works best for you.

Week 4: Adventure Challenge

We may have reached the last week of January and your final "Adventure Challenge," but the #RedBikeRevolution is only getting started...remember, this year's resolutions are now permanent changes to your fitness & health lifestyle!

"Adventure" is defined as a bold, usually risky undertaking that takes you out of your comfort zone, but it is also about having fun. This sense of adventure (and fun) is embodied by those who ran in the Miami Marathon today. It was amazing to see so many members of the #RedPack running, and it was an honor for us to sponsor and support not only our members but all of the courageous runners!

Our superstar instructors Adam & Gabi know a thing or two about adventure. Both have demanding, full-time jobs and both had never dreamt about becoming group fitness instructors, let alone spinning instructors! Yet, Adam & Gabi were both driven by a potent sense of adventure, a desire to step out of their comfort zone, have fun, and help others in the process.

In class Adam always says, “Let me see those smiles,” so in that vein, this week we through out the rulebook and focus on just having fun. Get swept up, feel the energy, Smile! Maybe it's a song, maybe it's something the instructor says, maybe it's just being happy or being swept up in the energy of the room. So rarely do we get nonjudgmental moments that are truly our own, so enjoy it! :)

Let's Be Mindful

Working out and eating right is only half the battle when it comes to a well-rounded lifestyle. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said: “Everyone has the power for greatness, not fame, but greatness, because greatness is determined by service”.  Providing a service, whether it’s to the community, to loved ones, or to you, all while being mindful, plays a huge role in how we feel. Our instructors Mari and America share their stories of how they like to give back and how it makes them feel better:

America: I am a very busy person. I teach an administrative job 5 days a week and tend to others all day. I also teach spinning a few times a week at Redbike. I love teaching spin because I know I’m helping others feel good and that makes me feel good too. However, I needed to find other ways to help me stay focused and grounded, especially since I’m also a newlywed! I have had to learn to manage my personal, work and social life. Doing all three is impossible if I’m not emotionally and mentally stable and what really helps me is being part of Vous Church.  One of the things we take pride in is giving back to our community in a project called “I Love My City” where we outreach through Miami Rescue Mission in Wynwood. We are committed to meeting the needs of those in the most desperation. There is no better way to love your city, than to serve it! There is no better feeling than to see how I can change peoples lives just by giving back and how I can make someone smile, simply by giving children a new backpack for school, a blanket for the homeless, and food for those in need. Giving back to others in our community fills my heart with happiness and gives me a good understanding and appreciation of what is really important in life.

Mari: "Live less out of habit and more out of intent."  I have set out for myself that 2016 is going to be the year that I live each day intentionally. In the past, I felt that I approached most days out of duty and drudgery. BUT NOT THIS YEAR!  On a daily basis, I have several opportunities to give of myself, of my time, and resources. There are two areas of my life where I serve: as a mom and as a fitness instructor.

Being a home-school mom of 4 children, I give my time to teach my kids day in and day out. I also am a director and tutor of a local homeschooling community.  Investing my time to teach the upcoming generation is an honor and privilege, and I am grateful that I can have this time in my kids’ lives and other children's lives to give back intentionally. When it comes to spinning, I began teaching for several reasons. The biggest reason though was because it’s where my passion for leading others in a positive, exciting, and healthy environment is matched with my desire to care for my own health and reach my own fitness goals.

Now it’s your turn! Use this week to add a little greatness into your life. Don’t forget  to follow us on Instagram or Facebook for daily tips, challenges, and words of encouragement to add to your Revolution.

RedBike Revolution Week 2: Health Challenge!

Hey RedPack!

Welcome to week #2 where the focus goes into what we put into our body. We Redbike’s Registered Dietitian/Nutritionists (Galit and Monika) will be leading the challenge with a variety of challenges that will hopefully help you shed a pound or two and to keep you in check with your food habits. Let’s take a look at this week’s daily challenge themes:

Monday - Ditch the alcohol and hydrate! We challenge you to not have 1 drink for 7 days and instead swap the beer pint for a water pint. Your goal is to increase your water intake today and every day for the remainder of the week. Goal: 2-3 liters/day

Tuesday - Veg out, with veggies that is! Ever hang out in the produce section and think, what do I do with this? Pick it up, take it home, google some recipes and try a new dish with it! You’d be surprised with how tasty veggies can be.

Wednesday - Dairy-free day! Dairy can put the body in a pro-inflammatory state and many people are sensitive to it. Try skipping all dairy (including creamer!) for the day, that means no cheese, yogurts, creams or milk!

Thursday - Sugar-cut Thursday! Forget added sugars, sweeteners and sweets (read labels!) instead have your sugar intake be of only naturally sweetened foods (such as fruit) for the day. Limit fruit intake to 1-2 servings.

Friday - Snack it up. Most snacks are high carb and not so good for us, we challenge you to pick a high protein, low carb snack for today. Think: protein shake, nuts, or even a tuna salad with veggies for a snack.

Saturday - Gluten-free day! Try new grains or starches such as oats, brown rice or quinoa and skip breads, most bakery items and anything with gluten.

Sunday - Try a new recipe!

Remember that everything we drink and eat turns into energy for us to work with, so choose wisely!

Your Dietitians,

Galit & Monika
